People are starting to realize the importance of self-awareness but can’t figure out how to be more self-aware. Being self-aware in my own life is one of the reasons I believe I have been able to have success, but it wasn’t always like this. I had to take many steps to be able to become more self-aware in my daily life.


I will be showing you the exact process and tips that you can use to become more self-aware.

Why Self Awareness is Important

First I want to emphasize the importance of self-awareness. Self-awareness is one of the biggest factors in determining someone’s future success. How self-aware are you? 


Do you understand what is going on in the world? Do you know how to take advantage of the opportunities you are given? 


You have new opportunities every day. You have two options, you can spend your time wasting them or you can spend your time taking advantage of them.


Self-awareness is the foundation of everyone’s personal development. Without self-awareness, you will be lost. You must understand yourself.


What are your strengths, and weaknesses? What do you enjoy doing? These are things you want to learn about yourself.


If you don’t have these answers that is totally fine. Over time you want to learn as much as you can about yourself so you can put yourself in situations that benefit you the most.

Try New Things

Most of you are here because you don’t know enough about yourself. This is most likely because you haven’t tried enough things. You haven’t tried that one thing and realized you are extremely good at it.


If you avoid trying new things you may never find it. 

Ask For Feedback

Sometimes when you are really good at something you don’t realize that everyone else isn't good at this. You just thought it was naturally easy for everyone else.


It isn’t until you get feedback from someone or someone mentions:


“Wow you are really good at that”


For you to realize that you have a natural talent. I am a firm believer that any skill can be learned. It’s more about the person and the mindset that they have.


But if you have a natural talent in a specific area, then you combine that with hard work and a growth mindset. There is no ceiling to how far you can go. 

You can be one of the top 1% of any industry you just have to figure out what you are really good at.


You could reach out to family members or friends to get some feedback on what you are good at. Often times these opinions can be skewed because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. Make sure you tell them they have to be honest and you can take it.


Another option is to ask a complete stranger to give you feedback. This way they have no skin in the game and have no reason to lie to you.

Challenge Yourself

You will be tempted to stay inside your comfort zone and never challenge yourself. It can be scary to put yourself out there and do something that you don’t usually do.


People who never challenge themselves often find themselves sad down the road that they missed out on too many opportunities. Sometimes you have to do things even when you don’t want to.


Too many times I say no to new things because I am busy or I don’t feel like doing it at the time. Even if I know I will have fun. This is something I am working on fixing. Everyone is busy and if something is important to you, you will make time for it.


A lot of people have a negative association with meditation but there is no reason to. It’s very simple and there are so many benefits of meditation.


At this point, it has been studied very closely and used by successful people for a very long time. Inside the extremely long list of benefits that meditation provides, helping you become more self-aware is one of them.


When you meditate you sit back and observe your thoughts. It helps you listen to the thoughts inside your head and stop judging yourself so much. You see your thoughts for what they really are… just thoughts, not facts.


Our thoughts can be very negative and judgemental. Meditation will help you reprogram your thoughts and become a more positive person.


Put simply, all you need to do to start meditating is to sit down and focus on your breath.

I took the Clifton Strengths Finder years ago and it helped me decide that my current job was not the best fit for me as it didn’t allow me to utilize my strengths and it actually made me use many of my weaknesses.


Figuring out what your strengths are is essential to your personal growth.

Write Out A Timeline of Your Life

The key to becoming more self-aware is learning more about yourself. Sit down with a blank piece of paper, and write out the major events that have happened in your life.


Start at birth and get all the way to today. It doesn’t necessarily matter if the events were big or small. It matters if the effect on you was big.


At the end of this exercise, you will be able to sit back and have a better understanding of yourself.

Educate Yourself

Read more, watch more videos, get advice from knowledgeable people. As you accumulate more information you will get a better understanding of the world and ultimately about yourself.


We are here to learn, we must acquire more knowledge as time goes by. This will help you understand which industries would be best for you to look into and which industries you should avoid.


The news can often be very negative and not tell you relevant information about your life. Does that mean you shouldn’t pay attention to any politics or current news? No, it just means that you should limit it or consume it in the right way.


Morning Brew is a daily email that comes out every morning that provides relevant news stories that are currently happening in the world.


This is my favorite and currently the only way that I hear about politics or business news. They give insight into businesses, stocks, and politics in an entertaining way. 


One of my favorite things about Morning Brew (besides that it’s free) is that it’s positive and humorous. Watching the news can make you feel depressed, they heavily push sad and negative news stories even though the public often doesn’t need this information.

Goal Setting

The entire process of goal setting can help you become more self-aware. When your goal setting you have to figure out what’s important to you. Then come up with a plan of action and execute it. 


Goal setting helps your track this entire process. If you accomplished your goal or not, which goals you did better with, and how long it took you.


This will help you gain a better understanding of yourself and help you realize what you are best at.

Daily Self Reflection

Self-reflection is one of the best ways you will be able to become more self-aware. Take time out of your day or your week and self reflect.


What went well? What did not go well? What is something that could be improved?


These are the kinds of questions you should be asking yourself. Always be looking for ways to improve. To do this you must find the problem and then look for a solution.


Use your creativity and come up with new solutions. You don’t have to do everything the same way that other people do it.


Journaling is one of the best keystone habits in the world. Journaling can provide massive benefits throughout multiple areas of your life.


Journal about your day, or about new ideas that you have. When you journal feel free to put down whatever is in your head. Journaling is a judgment-free zone and to truly receive the benefits of journaling you must be honest with yourself.
